Impact of your logistics on the world

We recognize that logistics plays a vital role not only in global trade but also in the quality of life on our planet. That’s why sustainability is a key focus area for us. Together with our partners, we continually explore and implement ways to make logistics smarter, greener, and more responsible, so we can positively impact both your supply chain and the world around us.

The sustainability of our trade world

Climate change is no longer a distant concern—it’s a reality we face today. Rising sea levels, melting ice caps, and record-breaking temperatures in 2023 underscore the urgency, with CO₂ levels and greenhouse gases at unprecedented heights. These shifts affect not only the global economy but also our daily lives. And in logistics, where the movement of goods connects every corner of the world, we witness these effects more directly than most.

Insight into CO2 emissions through our portal

With the automatic Excel Reporter in our online portal, you decide how and when you receive your logistics insights. Customize the frequency, layout, and data to match your exact needs. We’ve also added a new export template designed specifically for CO₂ emission overviews. Fully adjustable and easy to duplicate, it provides the flexibility to track and analyze sustainability metrics your way.

More about our portal

As an NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier), we don’t own ships, trucks, or other vehicles. Instead, we carefully select partners such as shipping lines and hinterland transporters who share our commitment to reducing emissions.

Whenever possible, we use barges (inland shipping) and trains as greener alternatives to road transport. On the seas, the introduction of the Low Sulphur and IMO2020 surcharges has helped reduce both sulfur contents and overall emissions. Many shipping companies are already taking the next step, investing in liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a cleaner alternative fuel.

By partnering with progressive carriers and striving for maximum standardization across the sector, we actively contribute to making global logistics more sustainable.

Developing our offices

At Berkman Forwarding, we believe a greener world begins close to home. Our Order Management System was designed to reduce paper usage and drive digitization. With our “keep it on the screen” policy, documents and emails are digitally archived instead of printed.

Our offices are equipped withlight sensors that switch off automatically when rooms are unused, reducing energy waste. To minimize plastic use, we separate and recycle plastics alongside paper. We also encourage sustainable commuting, whether by working from home or doing it the Dutch way: cycling to the office.

Small steps add up, and together, they make a big difference.
